AARP CEO Jo Ann Jenkins challenges outdated stereotypes about getting older in her 2017 book Disrupt Aging: A Bold New Path to Living Your Best Life at Every Age.
She writes that age is about growth, not decline, encouraging the reader to rethink the negative stories we tell ourselves and each other about aging. So, think twice about buying that “over the hill” birthday card for your friend!
Instead, Jenkins urges us to think about being in “extended middle age.” You can get the book at the library but sales from it support the charitable work of the AARP Foundation, which helps struggling people over 50 transform their lives.
